INGREDIENT CHOICES AND SUBSTITUTIONS
I like my milkshakes on the thicker side (read: includes ice cream) and this one is far from the healthiest beverage you could be consuming in the summer heat, but I still like to make mine with fresh strawberries rather than sugary artificially sweet syrups. This recipe contains just three ingredients (with an optional fourth) and this batch as shown below is creamy, and on the thicker side, while still being thin enough to easily suck through the straw, you can adapt as necessary to reach your desired texture. Add less/ no milk or more ice cream if you want it to be really thick, and less ice cream if you want to make it thinner.
I used vanilla milk and ice cream for the ‘cream’ element of this strawberries and cream milkshake, but you can use some Alpro strawberry milk and vegan strawberry ice cream if you want a pure strawberry milkshake with the same creamy texture.

Ingredients
- 200 g fresh strawberries
- ½ cup non-dairy milk I used vanilla soy
- 200 ml vegan vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Blend for as little time as possible to not overmix your ice cream. Blending for too long will make the overall mix thinner. You shouldn’t need to blend for more than about 30 seconds.
- Pour into your glass/ jar. Top with vegan cream, if using. If you want to use fresh cream to top your milkshake, you’ll need about 50ml of fresh vegan cream and a tsp of icing sugar, whisk together until your cream thickens, then spoon or pipe it on top of your milkshake.
