Chocolate Hummus Recipe

Chocolate hummus sounds a little strange, I know, but that’s basically what this is. Chocolate protein dip might sound better? But don’t be alarmed, there’s nothing savoury about this dish. It contains peanut butter, cocoa powder and sugar…and chickpeas. But it makes a thick dip, perfect for dipping crackers in, spreading on toast, or dipping fun things in like churros or sweet pretzels.

And you can make this recipe even sweeter (and more fun) by adding in any optional extras you want, like chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or dried fruit.

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION

I’m not going to try and break this down per serving as the amount you consume will vary so much depending on how you opt to serve it, but despite being a sweeter option, this recipe does contain a good amount of protein from the chickpeas and some iron from the cocoa and chickpeas.

Unless you’re eating a huge amount of this one go, you’re not going to get a huge amount of any vitamins.

The full batch contains 20g of fibre, 37g protein and 1340 calories, and 5mg of iron and is a source of vitamins B3, E and folate.

INGREDIENT CHOICES AND SUBSTITUTIONS

You can swap the chickpeas for any other canned bean of your choice, such as black beans or cannellini beans. Black bean brownies are a thing, so they would work well here. You can also swap the sugar for a liquid sweetener if you’d prefer a slightly smoother dip rather than a thicker paste. And the peanut butter can be swapped for any other nut or seed butter of your choice too, including something like Wow Butter if you’re looking for a gluten free alternative.

HOW TO STORE AND DOES IT KEEP?

Keep tightly covered/ in an airtight container and keep refrigerated and your dip should keep for 4-5 days.
