Maple Bacon Tortillas Recipe

I know maple bacon tortillas doesn’t automatically scream Christmas recipes in the way that roast potatoes do, but one thing I love about the run up to Christmas is when the somewhat festive flavoured snacks hit the seasonal aisle. Roast potato crisps? Stuffing crackers? I’m in. And these maple bacon tortillas are my semi-seasonal offering of that ilk.

For this recipe I’m using the maple bacon seasoning from Wicked Kitchen. This seasoning is a permanent feature in this range, so although I think it works perfectly for the festive period, you can make this all year.

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION

The following information is for eight tortilla chips/ one tortilla.

Each serving contains 150 calories, 2g of protein and 20% of the recommended daily amount of vitamin E.

SUBSTITUTIONS

I used corn tortillas for this recipe, if you wish, you can use GF flour tortillas. If you opt for GF tortillas, you may need to cook them for an extra minute or two. And the sunflower oil can be substituted for any neutral tasting vegetable oil.

HOW TO STORE AND DOES IT KEEP?

It’s a small batch so you likely won’t have much in the way of leftovers, but should you need to store these for later, keep them in a sealable bag with as little air as possible and they’ll keep for a couple of days before they start to soften.

Ingredients

  • 4 corn tortillas
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 tbsp maple bacon seasoning
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°c
  2. Chop each of your corn tortillas into 8 pieces, roughly even in size.
  3. In a small dish, mix your oil and maple bacon seasoning thoroughly. Using a pastry brush, brush each side of your chopped tortillas before placing them on a baking tray. Keep them spread apart and prevent overlap to ensure they crisp up. You may need more than one tray. Sprinkle with a dash of salt.
  4. Cook for 6-7 minutes or until crispy.
  5. Leave to cool for a couple of minutes before transferring to a dish to serve. They’ll crisp up a little more here while the oil cools.
